Meet the Team

Janelle B. Floyd
Founder and CEO
Janelle is a Florida native born in Coral Springs, FL. And received her bachelor's degree in Communications and Psychology at The Howard University in Washington, D.C.

While in school she had the pleasure of working at Girls Inc. where she developed and implemented her first basketball program titled Hoops. Throughout her junior and senior year she held positions at the YMCA, Capitol Hill and even the White House!

Her background in communications, youth development and administration enable her to be a dynamic leader, youth organizer and community developer. After graduating, Janelle worked at Pace Center for Girls in Fort Lauderdale, FL where she led the Girls Coordinating Council in research to help disrupt the Juvenile Justice system.

She has worked with youth for over 7 years in different capacities like sports, faith and confidence. Janelle’s creative abilities allow her to design flyers, curriculum content and successfully brand Girls in Christ, Inc. She is passionate about developing youth and providing equitable opportunities. Since 2013 Janelle has created and implemented more than 100 programs for youth!
Brandy Williams
Director of Spiritual Life
Teacher, Speaker, and Minister Brandy Williams, has risen from her small-town roots in Conyers, Georgia to be a powerful voice of conscience to young women and girls. Brandy boldly empowers this generation of young women to live out their God ordained purpose and Identity. As a first generation college graduate, Brandy earned her Bachelor's degree in History and Sociology at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. She also received her Master of Arts in History and Women’s Studies at Howard University in Washington, DC. In addition, she is a graduate of the following programs: Minister in Training Program at Restoration House international, Jakes School of Divinity God’s Leading Ladies Program and First Baptist Church of Glenarden Queen Esther mentorship and discipleship programs.

Her career started empowering girls at Girls Incorporated of the Washington, DC metropolitan area on the campus of Howard University. She served as Lead Program Facilitator providing supervision, administration and program knowledge to girls enrolled in Girls Inc., a national nonprofit organization inspiring team girls to be strong, smart and bold.
Brandy currently resides in Washington, DC where she is an High School Educator and member of Restoration House International, where she serves on the Leadership Team as: Connection's Ministry Director and a Board Member. She travels the country as a conference speaker, girls' advocate, event facilitator and trainer. She is very passionate about loving God and loving people whole-heartedly. She enjoys hiking, chick-flicks, learning, traveling and a good book! Fun fact: she has an Identical twin sister.
Tyra Green
Administrative Coordinator
Tyra Green is currently development coordinator at Capital B, a Black-led nonprofit news organization. She is a recent graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a master’s in Nonprofit Administration from Mendoza College of Business. With this experience, she held the position of graduate research assistant and master of development practice intern at the UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network. She also has worked at Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, CARE USA, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce while studying at Spelman College for undergrad.

2024 SENIOR SUNFLOWERS

Anaya Andre

Anaya Andre is a senior at Pembroke Pines Charter High School who has a passion for marketing and business. Anaya has been a Sunflower since 2020 and has strengthened her communication, leadership and organizational skills. In her love for giving back, she founded a non-profit organization known as “Promote Her, Period”, which aims to empower young women and bring awareness to period poverty. In her free time, Anaya enjoys playing tennis, songwriting, and public speaking to inspire others.

Samara Rawls

Samara Rawls was one of the first Sunflowers in 2019! Now an 18-year-old senior at Piper High School WIth a 5.0 GPA. She has received her AICE Diploma which consisted of an international curriculum and college level exams. Samara is involved in numerous school activities, such as president of First Priority, Mentoring Tomorrow's Leaders and vice president of her Mu Alpha Theta club. She also is a part of a county-wide program, BRACE Cadets, where she helps her peers prepare for college.

Samara is also an active member of her church, New Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she has been involved in numerous activities. Samara is also very active in her city, where she serves as the secretary of the Lauderhill Youth Council. Additionally, she volunteers with the Veterans Affairs every month. Samara has also been a teen journalist for the Westside Gazette since the seventh grade. Samara is also an active member of Girl in Christ, a non-profit organization, a ministry program for girls looking to grow in Christ, confidence, and community.
When Samara is not in school or volunteering, and spending time with her Dad, Mom, and 2 younger brothers. This upcoming fall, Samara plans to attend the University of Florida, where she will major in Health Sciences. She plans to open her own private practice, and her primary focus will be pediatric physical therapy.

Layla Davidson

Layla Davidson has been a Sunflower since 2020! She is an activist, a POCT and is a published author. She was born in Decatur, Alabama and has lived most of her life in South Florida. At her current high school, she has enrolled in the Law Program. She is a regular contributor to The Westside Gazette, a local newspaper. Layla is an award recipient of the Broward County's summer reading program for four consecutive years. Thus, when not reading or writing, she likes to spend time with her family and participates in extracurricular activities and play sports. She aspires to work in real estate and pursue a law degree.

Destiny Roberts

Destiny Roberts has been a Sunflower since 2020! As a Florida native she is committed to uplifting the Broward Community. In 2022 Destiny modeled at the Young At Art Recycled Fashion Show and won 2nd place with her team! Destiny is a well rounded emerging leader, as she loves fashion and giving back to the community. She often spends her time volunteering at her church, in the community and at her school. In her free time she likes to travel, read, and listen to music. She is looking to major in Criminal Justice to work for the FBI.

Shaliyah Black

Hi, I'm Shaliyah Black and I’ve been a Sunflower since 2020! When I'm not listening to music or trying out new restaurants, you can find me in the kitchen baking cakes and cupcakes - it's my passion! I also enjoy adding my personal touch to decor. "The Notebook" is hands down my favorite movie. During high school, I was active in clubs like Girls in Christ, Black Student Union (BSU), Pearls of Art, Urban Teacher Academy (UTAP), and College Admissions Process #CAP, just to name a few. Currently, I'm an aftercare counselor at Nova Southeastern University School, and I'm super excited to dive into nursing at Georgia State University this fall. Oh, and did I mention? I also run my own baking business called Lelessweetspot. Life's sweet!

Leja Williams

Leja is from Ft.Lauderdale, FL and currently attends Florida A&M University majoring in Pharmacy. She has been accepted into the Doctor of Pharmacy program and will be a Doctor or Pharmacy candidate in Fall 2024. She is a member of Kappa Psi Psi Healthcare Sorority, Incorporated, Phi Sigma Theta National Honor Society, and Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society. Leja currently has a 3.8 GPA.

Anaya Andre

She is from Pembroke Pines, FL and currently attends Pembroke Pines Charter School. “I recently started my own nonprofit organization formally known as Promote Her, Period. Our mission is to promote and empower young women, while creating a support system to embrace and understand their feminine journey.”

Joy Nails

Joy is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and currently attends Spelman College majoring in Biology on the pre-dental track. She has finished her first year with a 3.72 GPA and will be participating in the 2024 Summer Health Professions Education Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham!
